When you canoe Utah, you won’t soon forget it. The White River, flowing westward 34 miles from Bonanza, Utah, near the Colorado and Utah border, has been referred to as the best canoeing in Utah. It is certainly the most remote wilderness area of any flat-water river stretch in the West. Few boaters have discovered the wild and secluded beauty of a Utah canoe trip through the White River Canyon. Wildlife abounds, including wild horse herds, antelope, deer and beaver. Fantastic hiking awaits you at the unusual geologic formations of Goblin City. Before or after your trip, you may wish to hike into Fantasy Canyon or Devil’s Playground, featuring other unique rock formations. The water on the White River is generally smooth with occasional rapids up to Class I in difficulty. Excellent camping is found in the cottonwood groves along the river.

What Makes It Fun
A little known fact is that Colorado, Utah and Wyoming offer some of the best canoeing in the world through their towering canyons in the Colorado Plateau. It’s not about big rapids, but rather the freedom and exhilaration that comes from exploring and/or camping overnight in a remote area, the experienced guides, the mix of fun people we attract and the bonds that develop, excellent food, the evening campfire, and the splendor and serenity of a magnificent river landscape.
Near Rangely, CO, a typical White River canoe trip is 3 days and averages 12 to 16 people (2 people per canoe) and 2 guides. On this canyon-encased Utah canoeing trip, safety is always our main focus and we have a guide paddling at the front and back of the group. We tie personal and group gear in the center of the canoes and head down river. At our campsite or along the way, there’s an opportunity to explore wilderness canyons. And on multi-day trips, we have the luxury of camping along the river’s shore.
Personal Hygiene
We provide an enclosed portable bathroom facility on all trips because we understand that personal comfort and privacy are important in the backcountry. Your guides will make every effort to make you feel at home. The river provides a great opportunity for bathing after a long day on the river. Please bring your biodegradable soap and towel.
Meals
On multi-day trips, feast on shrimp hors d’oeuvres, wine and cheese after setting up camp in the afternoon. A varied menu may include salmon fillets, barbecued ribs, fresh salad, rice and pie for dinner. If you have special dietary needs, we encourage you to bring the foods that you require in a cooler and we will be glad to cook them for you. On the 1-day trips, the lunch may include appetizers, croissant deli sandwiches, potato salad, fruit and cookies.
Safety & Paddle Instructions
No previous canoeing experience is necessary for most of our trips. Basic paddle strokes and safety procedures will be taught the first morning at the river put-in and thereafter as needed. For our more advanced rivers (Dolores and Upper Colorado), we recommend 1 experienced paddler per boat & children be at least 6 years old.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Meet your guide staff at the designated BLM put-in located 4 miles west of Rangely, CO. Enjoy a continental breakfast before packing your dry bags, loading the gear in the canoes, and running a car shuttle to the Enron takeout. You will return to the put-in and participate in the safety talk and paddle instructions before launching. Camping at the put-in is allowed the night before your trip. There is no running water or bathroom facilities there. It's a secluded and quiet camping area.
Paddle downriver until approximately noon and enjoy lunch on the river’s edge.
After lunch continue paddling and having water fights (optional) until roughly 3 p.m. and make camp under the many cottonwood trees that provide shade (depending on campsite availability).
Late afternoon on the first day is devoted to setting up your tent and possibly relaxing, or playing and floating in the river.
Feel free to take a bath in the river and Happy Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. where shrimp, cheese, crackers and wine are served.
Dinner is served around 7 p.m. followed by campfire activities that may include games, singing, western tall tales, or guitar playing.
Day 2: After breakfast, you’ll break camp and load canoes. The day will consist of paddling through Hell’s Hole Canyon, a very remote area. Have your camera ready for spectacular scenery! You’ll paddle under the Bonanza Bridge and camp soon thereafter.
Day 3: After breakfast, you’ll paddle downriver until noon and have lunch on the river. In late afternoon you’ll camp in a thick cottonwood grove. There should be ample time for hiking and exploring the area. Happy hour will be at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7.
Day 4: After breakfast, you’ll break camp and load the canoes then paddle towards Goblin City, named by early explorer John Wesley Powell. Time and weather permitting you’ll do a great hike there. Once again, have your camera at the ready. You’ll most likely camp a short distance downriver from Goblin City.
Day 5: After a hearty breakfast, you’ll break camp and load the canoes and paddle your remaining 10 miles or so to the Enron take-out. Your trip should conclude around 2 to 4 pm, allowing time to return home. Lunch on the river is also included on the last day.

Refund Policy
If you cancel 28 days or more before your trips launch date you can get a full refund less a $30/person processing fee
We strongly recommend purchasing trip insurance through Travelex at 1-800-228-9792 (www.travelexinsurance.com), if you do not wish to loose money due to unforeseen circumstances. You will be asked for location #06-0079 by Travelex.
If you cancel your trip, you must notify us in writing. Any refunds owed will be based on the day our office receives your notice.
Exceptions to this policy cannot be made for any reason, including personal emergencies or the weather. There is no refund for leaving a trip early, arriving late, or choosing not to do all the offered activities.
CCO reserves the right to change tour itineraries or cancel any tour without notice due to acts of nature, safety concerns, political unrest, insufficient number of participants or other conditions. If we are unable to provide you with another trip that is satisfactory, all moneys paid will be refunded and the moneys shall constitute full settlement with you.
We are not responsible for any additional expenses that may be incurred because of a cancelled tour, travel delay, or flight cancellations, including non-refundable lodging deposits and non-refundable air tickets.
A guest may be asked to leave a trip if a guide feels that their continuing participation may prove harmful to that person or to the well being of other guests. We are not responsible for any additional expenses incurred by such guests.
